Photographing Children Pt. 2
When photographing children you have to be patient, one step ahead of your model and ready to move quickly! So a thorough understanding of how to set up your camera on the move is vital.
On this shoot I'm using a long lens most of the time because a long focal length compresses perspective and isolates my lovely niece Layla in her surroundings - so I can exclude unwanted clutter from the composition. The lens is an old consumer lens not my f2.8 pro lens because I want to show you it's technique not camera kit that'll get you great images.
You can also use a wide lens when photographing children because they have a great sense of intimacy - but be careful because they distort things.
By changing between auto focus modes as you work, choosing the one appropriate to the composition or shot you're taking, you can be sure of pin sharp images every time. Always set up your camera before you begin or you'll keep missing the moment. In Photographing Children pt1 I'll explain how to do this and recommend some settings to get you going.
