Fast Car Motion Blur
None of the motion blur in this image was done on a computer - all of it was recorded in camera when I took the picture.
Motion blur is achieved by using slow shutter speeds so part of an image records as a blur and part is crisp and sharp. But how can you motion blur in one place and sharpness in another?
This is simple enough technique but you do have to know how all the settings on your camera can be combined to achieve different effects. For example a slow shutter speed will record movement as a blur so you have to ensure the camera is moving at exactly the same speed as the car. This makes the car sharp and the background blur with motion as it moves in relation to the car
You have to be sure your camera is very stable or you get a totally blurred image through camera shake. Exposure is achieved with a combination of aperture, ISO and sometimes filters to cut light levels down. I know this sounds difficult but by using my low tech motion blur technique I promise it's actually pretty easy.
