Window Lighting Pt. 1
One way to get amazing images is to set up a studio with flash that can replicate natural daylight. Another cheaper option which works fantastically is to use window light. It’s completely free and everyone has access to it!
I’ve even done a photoshoot for Sainsburys using nothing more than a couple of windows and a reflector. This portrait of Tasha was shot in her kitchen one afternoon just as it was beginning to rain so there’s really no excuse for ‘bad’ light. And in this video you can watch us photographing it and more.
The great thing about using window light in photography is that it’s great for just about any subject from portraits to still life. As we all know, in photography light is everything. No matter how well composed your shot or how beautiful your model is if you don’t have good light it’s never going to impress anyone.
There are a few things to watch out for when shooting with window light such as length of exposure, ISO and avoiding camera shake. And that’s what we’re here to help you with.
