Using a Reflector Pt. 3
In how to use a reflector part 1 we looked at what reflectors are and do, in part 2 we used one in the shade to add a sparkle. Now lets combine a white card reflector to add light - with a black card to remove some at the same time.
The black card part is called subtractive lighting and we touched on it in part one when I used a reflector to put Tasha in the shade and remove shadows.
This time lets get a bit more subtle. Tasha is already in some nice soft light but I want to soften a shadow under her chin and push a bit of light back into her eyes.
That's what the white reflector in my right hand is doing. In my left hand is a piece of black card which is blocking some of the light coming in from the side which 'models' Tasha's cheeks and accentuates her cheek bones.
Photography is all about light and how you the photographer control it.
