Auto Focus Modes Pt. 3
Setting up your AF-C and AI Servo autofucs modes isn't difficult. You just have to think through what you want to do with the image your taking by asking yourself questions.
How are you going to compose the photo?
Where in the frame are you going to place the subject?
Are they coming towards you fast or slow?
Do you need to shoot in burst mode for multiple images?
The answers will lead you to the settings you need. I wanted Rees to be coming toward me on the right of the frame and the solidity of the pillars on the left so I set single point AF with the 'dot' on the right of the frame. All I had to do was keep the dot on Rees and the composition would take care of itself.
I wanted the camera to keep him in focus as he came towards me so I set AF-C (continuous mode - AI servo on Canon) and I wanted to capture his expression as he got closer and closer so I set burst or continuous shooting mode so the camera would keep taking pics as he came right up to me.
