Using a Short Lens Pt. 1
Wide angle photography shot on a wide (also known as 'short') lens adds drama to your pictures.
Wide angles are brilliant for great big open scenes, and are probably an estate agent's best friend because they make small spaces look bigger than they are.
Because wide (short) lenses have lots of depth of field it's easy to make sure everything's sharp and can include loads of a scene because of the wide field of view.
But like any lens they can also produce some quite boring images when used inappropriately. A scene often needs foreground to stop it becoming flat to look at and a wide lens is perfect for this. Wide lenses can add a real feeling of intimacy or what I call 'being there' to a photo when you get close to some foreground with one.
Wide angle photography isn't just confined to landscapes - it can be used in clever ways with portraits too. However, you need to know how to do this right and that's what part 2 is all about.
