Moody Studio Lighting 2
We've all seen amazing dark shadowy portraits of people looking moody and wondered how on earth to do it. I certainly did when I was learning. The good news is it’s really quite simple once you’ve got your flash lights set up. Well - actually for moody stuff it’s ‘light’ singular!
In this video we’ll explain how light behaves so you’ll understand how to control it. Flash metering for a moody lighting effect is slightly different from metering an even light because if you do it in the wrong place the image will be overexposed. We’ll explain how to use your flash meter to ensure the exposure is perfect every time.
We haven’t even set up a backdrop because you can make the background dark and moody with your one flash light (we’ll show you), and by using a long focal length lens you can get in tight on your subject to avoid distractions like radiators etc around the room.
