DIY Flash Diffuser 2
In DIY Pop Up Flash Diffuser pt1 we looked at four ways to make one and the difference each make in a given set of circumstances. Now lets change the environment and see what happens when we go outside where there are no walls for the light to bounce of.
No matter how good a diffuser is in side it will work completely differently outside. Also because it's night time there's nothing in the background for light to illuminate so whilst there are no background shadows - there's nothing to see behind James.
The top image was taken with the camera's pop up flash and no diffuser and the bottom one was taken using the film canister diffuser. James is less 'shiny' in the top one because the light is less harsh so our diffuser is still making a difference to the light if not the background.
But remember our white card diffuser which worked so well in the living room? Watch the video to see how completely useless it is outside in the garden. I'll explain why and show to you why it happens.
