A new photo challenge is issued to our Photo Creative Facebook group as a project for you to work on, developing your camera and creative skills.

A Live feedback session accompanies each challenge on my Youtube channel.

The group is a lively, supportive community of over 7,000 photographers of all levels.

Make a donation - support the community

It's not expected - but it is very much appreciated

We all like to be paid for our work and expertise. If you have gotten value from theses challenges please consider making a small monthly donation equivalent cost of coffee and cake once a month. It's very little to ask and when enough of you do it - it keeps the group going.

Current Challenge: Between Lines...

You can have any subject or genre of photography, but I want to lots of lines with the subject seen surrounded by or through them. Frame in Frame composition could be an example, but get as many repeating lines surrounding the subject as possible - rather than just a window of four.

You could begin by making a list of places where there are plenty of lines, then go check them out and see what the possibilities are.

  • Use Lines to Frame or Isolate: Look for lines that naturally enclose or separate parts of the scene - windows, doorways, shadows, fences - anything that helps isolate or draw attention to your subject.
  • Use colours: Use lines of one colour to frame a subject of a different, preferably complimentary colour and texture like the brushes opposite.
  • Experiment with Perspective: Changing your angle - shooting from above, below, or at a diagonal - can reveal unexpected lines or make ordinary ones more dynamic.
  • Let Lines Lead: Use leading lines to guide the viewer’s eye through the image. Try curving paths, rivers, walls, or even a row of people or trees. BUT THEY MUST FRAME THE SUBJECT not just lead to it.
  • Balance Simplicity and Story: Avoid clutter. Let the lines do the visual heavy lifting while still allowing room for atmosphere, emotion, or a subtle narrative.

Remember to use light appropriate to the image you're creating. Have fun ...
