Free Photography Challenges And Feedback Sessions

A new photo challenge is issued to our Photo Creative Facebook group as a project for you to work on, developing your camera and creative skills.

A Live feedback session accompanies each challenge on my Youtube channel.

The group is a lively, supportive community of over 7,000 photographers of all levels.

Make a donation - support the community

It's not expected - but it is very much appreciated

We all like to be paid for our work and expertise. If you have gotten value from theses challenges please consider making a small monthly donation equivalent cost of coffee and cake once a month. It's very little to ask and when enough of you do it - it keeps the group going.

Current Challenge: Shift

A shift can be a moment of transition, a sense of moving from or going to one place to another. A change of position, physical or metaphorical. It might be a shift in the weather, shifting light or movement, an emotional shift, a change in purpose, a pivot in perspective. This theme invites you to notice and capture what is in the process of becoming something else, going somewhere else, or has maybe passed by and gone somewhere else.

How you choose to interpret it is up to you, but be clear what your shift is in your image, not your description. You know the dog shifted position - but will your viewer?

You can use movement blur to achieve this or imply it in a ‘still’ image. Aspire to create an image which is engaging us as well as fulfilling the brief. Think about appropriate light and composition to bring your idea to life and cause a shift in our enjoyment of it…

Tips
  • Shift in Place or Destination: Look for scenes that imply someone or something is going somewhere else. The idea doesn’t need to be literal - just the feeling of leaving or moving on is enough.
  • Weather Shift: Weather often shifts suddenly and dramatically. Try to capture that moment of in-between: when a storm rolls in, clouds start to break, or sunlight reappears after rain.
  • Emotional or Human Shift: Focus on facial expression, body language, or gestures. The moment someone realises something, changes direction, or prepares to act - those are shifts too.
  • Plan your work  - then work your plan: Make a list of possible scenarios you think would be fun to work on, how, where and when you can do them.

Work according to your skills and what inspires you. Walking the streets might help, abilities

I look forward to seeing what you choose to work with
