Photography Workshops
Don't upgrade the camera - upgrade the photographer
Modern cameras are incredible pieces of technology. But the truth is you don't need to understand 90% of the buttons, menus and features to create powerful photographs. In fact, too much choice creates confusion and lack of confidence.
Photography becomes far simpler when you realise there are really only five key controls, light, composition and the ability to think creatively. That's it.
The great masters of photography understood this. Salgado, Cartier-Bresson, Ansel Adams, Fan Ho and whoever you draw inspiration from created extraordinary images with cameras far less advanced than the one you're probably carrying today. They didn't rely on endless technology. They relied on skill, observation, patience and vision.
Because cameras don't take pictures any more than a piano plays music.
You make the photographs.
My workshops are designed to help you develop your skills in beautiful locations alongside like-minded people who share your passion for photography.
Every workshop includes practical tuition, coaching, exercises and feedback designed to help you grow in confidence and ability. The goal isn't simply to return home with nice photographs, but to return home as a better photographer.
And if you're worried you're not experienced or confident enough to attend, please don't be. Many people arrive feeling exactly the same way. By the end of the workshop, they wonder why they worried in the first place. All skill levels are welcomed and encouraged. See bottom of this page if you're unsure...

A simple repeatable thought process
I've got a system that makes photography simple which I call The 7 Building Blocks of Photography. I break it down, show you how, and then let you dive in. This way, you'll truly understand each piece of the puzzle and how they fit together. I skip the jargon and keep it simple – no overwhelming tech stuff. Believe it or not there are only 5 controls / settings you need to master.
I've specialised in teaching since 2006, helping photographers like you. I love it when you have a 'light bulb' moment and grasp a new idea or concept. In 2012 I got a teaching qualification so I know about learning styles and can make seemingly complex concepts simple, so you get clarity and confidence in your photography.
Workshops DO
- Concentrate on seeing / finding images
- Work with light
- Coach composition
- Creative focal length
- Teach you how to think like a photographer
- And find the settings you need
Workshops DO NOT
- Explain what each knob and button does
- Delve into camera menus (they're all different)
- Preach which camera / lens / kit is 'best'
- Make the image for you (I'll help you find them)
Help will be given if you're stuck. For a personal deep dive you need 1on1 mentoring
If you're not confident about your skills
Don't worry, workshops aren't just for 'pros'
Every photographer who ever lived, including your own personal favourite photographer began by wondering how to work a camera.
From there they moved onto creative use of light and composition and made many disappointing images as they progressed to ultimately becoming one of the Greats. We are all in different places on our photography journeys and my job as your mentor and guide on a workshop is to help you towards your goals, whatever they may be for you.
Don't think you're not good enough yet.
Struggling alone is never as productive, inspiring or as much fun as coming on a workshop and seeing yourself progress in leaps and bounds.
If you feel unsure about your photography and prefer to brush up a bit first, I've got your back with a ton of super helpful free videos searchable by category so you won't feel behind or like you're holding others back!
