Local photography competition receives healthy interest

 21st Dec 2011

There is a healthy interest in amateur photography among residents of Leicestershire and Rutland, it would appear. For amateur photographers there are great on-line tutorials by Mike Browne at Photography Videos to take your images to the next level.

A photography competition, organised by the Mercury newspaper and Jessops, invites local people to send in images relating to the theme of colour. This is clearly a broad topic and entries so far have ranged from a close-up of a splash of water to a spread of flowers.
Nick Grassby, the 64-year-old who captured the shot of the water droplet, told the paper that the image took a lot of precise planning. He explained that his interest in photography has largely evolved as way of capturing images of his grandchildren, but that he also enjoys taking “anything that catches my eye”.
Other photographers noted that they were predominantly interested in the hobby as an art form and enjoyed looking for creative shots to capture.
The competition is open until midnight on 1 January, 2012, and a total of six photographs can be submitted by each person on the colour theme. The best entries will be shown in the Mercury newspaper and may also be published online.
