Focal Length Explained Pt. 1

We've all become very lazy with our lenses because we think that by zooming in and out we don't need to move ourselves.

BUT - when you zoom your lens in and out and change the power of magnification it affects everything in the image you're taking. Zooming doesn't just make your subject come closer - it makes everything behind them (or it) come closer too. This is called altering perspective.

Focal length explained shows you how simple it is to completely change the way an image looks just by using different focal lengths.

These shots of Natasha were both taken within seconds of each other and she didn't move an inch between them! All I did was change focal length and as you can see, both Tasha and the location look very different.

In the focal length PT1 film we looked at the three things that change when you zoom the lens. Focal length explained an exercise in perspective and teaches you how to choose an appropriate focal length (by setting the zoom) for how you'd like the picture to look.

Watch the film - then go out and do this for yourself.
