A photography competition for students has been launched by Nottingham's student paper, Impact. If you are a beginner and want help getting started, Mike Brownes Photography DVD could be for you.

The publication is encouraging people to take part in the second photography competition organised by its editorial in a bid to promote engagement with the surrounding environment.

Climate change and our environment is the topic of the event, which the organisers hope will allow photographers a very broad scope with their material. It will run in collaboration with Nottingham Student Union's One World, which is designed to help “people of different faiths and backgrounds to come together to celebrate each others' cultures to challenge global justice”.

But the photographs do not need to be of something exotic, although overseas images will be welcomed. They can focus on aspects of life and issues affecting the environment locally as well. 

Entrants have until 23 October to send their pictures in, with a maximum of two photos per person and a short description of each entry among the requirements.
