Photo add-ons available for iPhone to enhance your photography

 20th Apr 2009

Although the Apple iPhone is not famous for having a great camera, its Apps Store includes several great applications that can enhance the camera’s performance and make it really fun to use.

But the iPhone has a mediocre 2-megapixel camera, which Apple chose not to upgrade when it had the chance. A better 3.2 megapixel camera is expected to be available with the next iPhone, but for many photography enthusiasts stuck with the current model, the appeal of the apps is diminished somewhat as they have to work with the relatively low resolution images that the iPhone delivers.

However, a little known fact is that there are some excellent hardware add-ons available that can tide enthusiasts over before the next iPhone version launches.

The first is the Griffin Clarifi, which retails at US$30.99 and enhances the colour clarity and accuracy of macro and close-up shots. It works by slipping over the camera and providing an entirely new lens that fits over the existing lens of the iPhone. It is to be used with subjects that are four inches away or less.

The FastMac iV for iPhone Battery Charger doubles up as a torch and as a camera flash. This is expected to be particularly popular as camera phones are infamous for not being take good photos in the dark.

Other add-ons include the Mobile Phone Telescope by Mobile Brando and the detachable fisheye camera lens, which is magnetic.
