An amateur photography competition is offering up a holiday as a prize for the best picture of a sign. And as the prize is a holiday - brush up on your skills with our photography DVD before you get going.

Organised by Great Hotels of the World, the competition is encouraging people to send in photographs of the best signs they have come across, either on their holidays or in their own region.

The image can be of any type of sign and in any language, but it needs to be translated into English to allow the audience to enjoy the picture.

The competition is encouraging photographers to provide “entertaining and unique” photographs, and reminds them that the event is not restricted to road signs, but can cover any kind of signs they wish to use.

To take part entrants need to submit their picture by 26 August this year by emailing greatsignsoftheworldc@ghotw.com and the organiser will add all of the entries to its Facebook page and select five of the best to feature on its website before offering the public the chance to vote for an overall winner. Entrants are reminded that they cannot enter more than three pictures.

The lucky winner will receive a four-night stay at the Valamar Lacroma, Dubrovnik in Croatia. Breakfast, return airport transfers, a room upgrade and complimentary us of the spa and fitness zones are all included in this prize.
