The Digital Photographer of the Year competition organised by Digital Camera Magazine, has announced this year's winners.

The competition is open to amateur and professional photographers and attracted more than 81,000 entries from around the world last year.

The winners came under ten categories. Photographers were allowed to enter as many as five photographs in each category. The categories included ‘black & white,’ ‘animals,’ ‘hidden Britain,’ ‘documentary,’ ‘people & portraits,’ and ‘action & movement.’

The overall winner received a prize of £15,000 and the winner for each category received £1,000 and a year’s membership to the Royal Photographic Society.

The overall winner this year was a picture of Indonesian boys washing their clothes on a river dam. The photograph was taken by Tan Choon Wee from Singapore who used a Nikon D200 with Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 camera lens.
The competition is sponsored by Jessops, the Royal Photographic Society, Canon and Adobe.

The best entries to the competition are viewable in a free exhibition at the Mall Galleries in central London from 17 February to 28 February 2009.
